Need some advice... Long story short, a girl ran a red light and totalled my beloved 93 Mustang GT that I daily drove to work and now need to replace it. I would take the insurance money and get another, but I've got this strange want to dump $3500 into my '99 PS 4x4. I could justify it if I could get the 15-16 mpg that I have now up to around 21 or higher. I drive all highway back and fourth to work and after reading all the posts on mpg, seems the general consensus is that driving techiniques is the biggest player which I have seen first hand. But how much better can I do with a chunk of change devoted to mods? Can 3500 freshen a truck up to daily driver status? Thanks for the help in advance.
well first start off simple and check all of your intercooler pipes make sure they are tight.. then keep your tire pressure up to par.. clean out your EBPV get rid of any gunk there mite be in the tube. thats all i can think of for now... doing all of this is free try this out first
oo yea also keep the rpms at around 2000 on the highway that will increase your fuel mileage greatly.. i get 18.5-19 on the highway when do 75 but if i were to do 65 im sure id get more
You can get better mpg by what was already said, but you can get the biggest grinn factor for 3,500 worth of mods. Im mpg went down after my mods and I don't think it will be going back up any time soon.
what mods do you already have...6637 filter, dp tuner(like there is any other quality one out there), and exhaust along with proper driving will help...ive gotten 21 once, so it is feasable
Sorry about that, I thought I had my signature setup.... Completely stock '99 F250 Super Duty PS 4x4 Long Bed. 140k miles so far. Truck runs great, at least I think it does, never driven anyone elses similar truck. Pulls like a mule. No smoke, even when I lay into. I have gotten some advice (mostly from reading postings here) on simple mods to do which I plan on doing soon. Other projects keep getting in the way. I know it has the stock tires and rear end ratio, but not sure what those are. I can find out. Let me know what else I should look at for more info.

This one here is one simple one. Just do what I have in my signature, drive with your mind on the price of fuel today and you will get over 20 mpg with no problem at all.
alright...with bone stock i say do the intake (6637), exhaust (4inch), gauges, dp tuner...also maintanence- fuel filter, clean exhaust backpressure tube, change oil, check ic boots, check up pipes...

This all sounds great, from everyone. Do you recommend the same tunes as in your signature with the dp tuner? When I get the DP tuner, I'll need to get the essential tunes that everyone recommends. I'm sure I'll find this info with some looking around. Thanks again!

I've the no start, stock, fast idle, 60T, 80E, 120R, and 140AGR. I find it the most fun to drive around in 80E and can easily get over 21 mpg city. Have not done a trip yet and have only fooled with the 120 for a few short blasts. The only time it's been in the 140 is when Jody was live tuning it so I've not played with that one at all. But if you follow my instructions in my first post in this thread you will get very impressive fuel economy for such a heavy truck.
First off before any of these guys murder me lol, I'm definitely going to get the dp tuner. However I have the edge juice with attitude right now along with intake and exhaust and I seriously all bull**** aside get 22 to 24 on the highway. I calculate it all the time. I bought the mods for fuel economy, but I like to get in it every now and then.

I hear ya man, my Superchips was good for 3 to 4 mpg, but I'm also pretty sure it ate 2 transmissions for me. I was without it for 10 days a few years ago when I had to have it reflashed and my mpg dropped a lot, not to mention the truck was no fun to drive. Any performance chip is going to help you a lot, but for me, DP is the Rolls Royce of all of those available.
I love all the tunes i got...just cleaned out the ebp tube and am exicited to see if i will gain any mpg...i do pretty good for a couple of days with babying the go pedal...then it takes one dodge or chevy at a traffic light and im in race mode completely nullifying those 2 days of going slow. i currently get 13-15 mixed city and highway...hoping to up this to 14-16 with the cleaned tube.
well this is a list in a specific order:
1) big red brick buy it or drive by an old biulding-free(to be installed under GO pedal)
2)AIS filter
4)4" ebay exhaust system
5)flash PCM with 80econo tune
6)enjoy
than if you decide that you never going to get 20+MPG
buy :
1)Garett BB turbo
2)200cc injectors
3)46637- Kwick filter
5)full blown DP-Tuner
6)BTS VB for your trans
7)look at the Rview mirror with Permgrin that you just smoked your tires and somone next to you - PRICELESS
