Hello all,
Just when I think I have an understanding of this POS, I realize I don't. So, can someone explain how the Trottle Valve works. I'm trying to figure out how adjusting the cable works. Like if you pull it more, does it increase pressure to downshift, or decrease pressure to downshift? I just put the transmission in, adjusted the cable as it says in the rebuild DVD (no I didn't use that DVD to rebuild, had my dad with many years of experience do it) and now it wont shift until you bring the RPM's way up and then let off a little and play with the throttle. Then it will shift. You do that all the way through 3rd and then it will shift into OD.
Also, can someone take a picture of their transfer case linkage. I think I'm missing a part of mine but I can't remember for sure. I haven't tried putting it in yet as I have a couple of other things to do first.
Its been awhile since I had my AOD 88'. But just floor it and note at what RPM it shifts to second. Adjust it one way or the other and try again. (it doesnt take much to make a change) I liked mine to shift at about 4000 when the pedel is on the floor. (It will shift much sooner when normal driving) Thats assuming the floor is not your normal driving. LOL
Helirich: unfortunately that method will not work for me. I have installed a transgo shift kit which enables me to hold it in any gear when floored. The problem I'm running into is that driving it normally it will not shift You have to get it up to speed, let off the gas and then it will shift but you have to play with it a little.
Its funny you should mention that. I have the Transgo in my current truck. (E40D) I'm just about to drill the holes a little bigger. (I went by their recomendations the first time) As I understand it, the kit doesnt keep it from shifting. I believe it just makes it shift firmer. It may be differnt on the AOD. But I dont think so.
In any case. Which ever way the cable moves when you step on the throttle is the wrong way to adjust it. Example-if the TV cable is pulled when you step on the pedel, adjust it so it doesnt pull so much.
