I am in need of some help. I have a 79 ford f100 stepside. I have a c6 auto trans that i need installed. The truck was stick from factory but was in the process of being converted to an auto, when i bought it. I have the tranny, but have no clue how to install it. Do i need a crossmember only. Will i need to have fab work done. I have a floor shifter for it, so that part is taken care of. I need to get this rig on the road and have posted this thread before, on another forum here on fte, but had zero luck. I can answer any questions i did not already cover. Please help. thanks in advance.
i just switched mine over to an aod. the crossmember needed to be moved back a bit and the driveshaft had to shortened. i took mine to a shop, didn't have the time to play with it. the work isn't too bad, you could do it in the garage, pretty much need a good floor jack and set of sockets and wrenches. you need the flexplate, kickdown, cables, other than that there's not to much. i think mine was just over $600 in parts.
the thing to check first is the bellhousing, make sure it'll fit then check the oil in the tourque convertor.
while it's out i would change the filter.

1st off all, i have built 2 of these trucks before and have had no issues bec. the trans was already installed, i purposely bought the truck, with nothing installed so i could learn how to do it. The c6 is out of a van that had a 302 in it so i know it will fit my 351w. i also have the fly wheel and all the cables necassary to use the trans, im just having a hard time with installing it. It did not come with a stick trans. in it when i bought it, and have no desire to get one to "put it back in." The motor and the trans. are not installed .....any more questions?
