1997 expedition trans shift problem

hi all 97 expedition put it in drive no movement untill about 1500 rpm then a hard shift (bang) then it starts moving works fine untill the next full stop any ideas ? tranny has a little over 120 k on it. truck has never had an issues before and just hauls wife and kids.

Welcome to FTE. First, check your tranny fluid, could be low. Second, you may want to change trans fluid, does it smell burnt? Check those and other FTE er,s will chime in for yaa.

fluid level is fine does not smell burnt no check engine or flashing od light runs fine in reverse and after it starts to move

Sounds like the valve body in the transmission is either crapped up and not allowing the valves to move freely. More than likely it is time to rebuild the tranny.
