Is there a fuel filter in the frame under the drivers door?
I see something that looks like one on this truck I just got?
Is there a pump in the tank?
Where is the lift pump located?
Thanks ahead of time.
And I wonder what the cannister in my fuel line in the frame is?
Looks like a inline filter.
The fuel tank selector valve is mounted in the lines, inside the frame rail and below the cab, it selects which tank the pump draws fuel from and where the excess fuel returns to. That's probably what you're seeing. It also selects which tank the fuel gauge reads from.
How difficult is it to replace the pump? I was told it was about a 5 hour job, is it something a guy with semi decent wrenching skills could do?
I havent replaced my pump but it looks possible in 5hrs or less. As long as you dont have a california emission truck you can remove the pump w/o taking the turbo off. I'd cut the short fuel lines on the pump and replace them. Take the fuel filter cannister off, replace any orings that are leaking, install the new hoses on the cannister.

I just did mine and it took me about 3 hours, becareful not to drop the tappet out the bottom of the pump and also have a large 1 1/4" combination wrench for the banjo bolt on the back side (very small hands are a huge +). Definate +1 on cutting the rubber fuel lines and replacing them as well as the o-rings on the filter drain, theres so much heat there they rot and crack and do not like to be reused!!
