The exterior cargo light on the back of the cab above the rear window. Is the wiring the same for the 1973-77 and the 1978-79. It seems to be by my visual inspection of a 1976 at the wrecking yard and my 1979. The difference is the actual cargo light. The 73-77 is a little larger light with the screw holes farther apart. Am I correct does anyone know ? My cargo light does not work, so I am replacing the wirng from a 1976, will the bulb socket for a 76 fit the 79 cargo light casing, or will I need to cut the wires and splice the 79 bulb socket to fit the cargo housing. As I said all the wiring with the inside cab switch seem to look the same. Yes I have tried a new bulb and checked the switch. The cargo light on the 76 had been tested and works, that why I am interested. I thought just take the head liner down and the dash bezel off and run complete new wiring using the old cargo light housing which is just plastic. I also checked the buld housing for rust and contact areas.
It would be better to fix the problem with what you have now.
First off: Does your dome light work?
Second: Check the fuse panel. Is the fuse ok?
Third: There is a plug at the bottom of the cab, right behind the driver seat, in the cab corner. check this plug for corrosion, also check to see if you have power to the Green/yellow stripe wire. If no power check for broken circut toward dash, bad fuse etc... If power go on to next step.
Fourth, remove cargo light switch. check to see if you have power at the switch on the green/yellow stripe wire. If power, turn on switch and check for power at the black/red stripe wire at cargo lamp switch. If no power replace cargo lamp switch. If power check for broken circut from switch to cargo lamp.
