300 inline six performance

Hello All,

One of my friends and I have been looking at doing some modifications to his F100 with an inline 6. He wants to get some more performance out of it, and I'm hoping to help out the mileage along the way as well. Here's some of the things I'm looking at:

1. A later model EFI head, I've heard that they flow quite a bit better than the original carbureted heads. Is this true, and if so, what is the best casting number to try and get ahold of?

2. An aluminum 4-barrel intake. Who makes the best one for street use? Offenhauser looked to have a good one, is the dual port any better than the regular intake?

3. A 4-barrel carb. Either a smaller cfm edelbrock or AFB style carb, or an adapter with a quadrajet. I can work on the Q-jet, and I've gotten amazing gas mileage out of them, any suggestions here?

4. Headers and an exhaust system. It looks like a split header with three cylinders per outlet appears to be the most common usage. Where would one find an exhaust system for something like this? Does someone make a kit that would just bolt up, or would we have to take it to the shop?

5. Camshaft? Is there one that would be worth the upgrade?

6. Ditch the emissions stuff. What all can go?

Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I've spent most of my life working on Mopar and GM big blocks, never really messed with a ford or a six before. I know there are some real experts out there on these engines. Please feel free to put in your $.02.

comp makes cams
390 cfm holly w/ a offy duel port is standard.
EFI exhaust manifolds or headers.
240 six head will get more compression.
all emissions can go just make sure you tie up all your loose ends.

Will the 240 heads flow as well as the 300 heads will? What kind of compression ratio would I be looking at with a 240 head versus a 300?

Thanks

A search of the inline 6 section of this forum will give you more information than you can imagine.
