also what was the original colors for the 64 292. i read alot of these post but dont quite understand the lagistics of it all.

I've got the same question on the engine color(s). If you find anything, please let me know. Kinda soon (a couple of weeks) as mine is out getting rebuilt. Eickman's book (see below) discusses paint schemes on pp. 44-45, but it's not specific and does not include info for post '59 versions.
On the valve thing, according to J. Eickman's book (The Ford Y-block Origin, Maintenence, Rebuild, 1984, Motorbooks International, Osceola, WI, 54020), page 76-77, "the preliminary valve lash specifications for both intake and exhaust valves is 0.020 cold and 0.019 hot. If you have a supercharged 312 with the high-lift camshaft, set the intakes to 0.022 cold and 0.020 hot and the exhausts to 0.027 cold and 0.025 hot." Oh, one more thing...on p. 33, he lists hot lash for '60-62 models as 0.018
