Ok so I have been contemplating gears in my 97 F-250 4x4 LD (7 stud) for some time and after a plethora of problems I can say it's time. My question to yall is this, when i shop for 4:56 gears i search for the ones for a 10.25 rear end thats a given depending on my choice of brand etc...now for the front, does it still stand that i go one lower, 4:55's? and if so what front differential do i search for? I have the 5.4 liter if that matters btw. Anyway hope to find the info i need and if you all have and manufacturers in mind i'm open to suggestions.
Yes, some of the older trucks had different gears. 4.10/4.11 or 3.54/3.55 or 3.08/3.09
Don't really know why they did that...maybe certian gears weren't available for certian axles...so they matched them as close as possible.
The difference between your front and rear tire pressures will impact your gearing more than a .01 difference in gears. As long as you dont run 4WD on the pavement, you'd be fine
