Hey guys Im going to change my transmission fulid and I was looking at the Haynes book and it said "Do not reuse transmission gasket" and I was told that you can reuse it. What do you guys think?
Also if I can im going to drain the torque converter mine has that black plug on the bell housing, when I refill the transmission with new fulid should the engine be running?
Thanks

I've use my gasket three times so far. No leaks. If you don't have a drain plug in the pan, now would be a good time to install one. Once you get everything back together, fill the tranny with the engine off until the fluid level just touches the dip stick. Then start the engine and add fluid until the level is in the cold zone. Drive it until the engine and transmission are at normal operating temperatures. Park it on level ground and go through all the gears a couple of times. With the engine still running, check the level of the fluid and adjust as necessary. Note: If you've installed a drain plug, it makes it a lot easier removing fluid if you happen to have over filled.
Thanks sbclmens, I have been wanting to change the fluid since March of this year, just a little nervous because I never did it before. I did buy 20qts of fluid and the filter.
I do have a drain plug in the transmission pan already. Thanks for the tips though.
