460 exaust bolts

460 exaust bolts
i just go a 76 460 i am putting it in my 68 merc m-100 when i took off exaust manifolds 7 of the bolts broke off in head is this a normal thing ,what is the best way to get them out.i am putting headers back on but need to fix broken bolts first.

The guys at the machine shops get them out using a cutting torch. They put the torch over the bolt, get it cherry and hit the oxygen and it blows the bolt right out. They tap out the hole to clean the slag out and the thing is like new. I wouldn't have the guts to do it though. That's why I take my heads is and let them do it. The last time I had it done was about five years ago and it cost $35.00 per head to get it done. It's probably $75.00 now.
