01 Escape With A/C Issue

Hello all. Back again with another problem. The A/C on my wifes 01 Escape (3.0 V6, Auto., 2WD) works fine when sitting at a stop, but as soon as you drive off the cold air stops flowing. When the vehicle comes back to a stop, air gets cold again. You can rev the engine when sitting still and air stays cold, but drive the darn thing and cold air stops again. Appreciate any comments or solutions, the weathers getting warm and need to keep the wife cool.

Just to let all know for future reference, the problem was low freon........at least according to the ford dealer. A/C seems to be working fine now, will let all know if it comes back.

When you drive you get more airflow through the condenser. This lowers A/C pressures. On a system low on refrigerant, the pressures are already low to begin with.. the extra airflow could be just enough to trip the low pressure cycling switch, thus disengaging the compressor.

I hope they injected some flourescent dye into the system for you. If it was low that means there is a leak, which means it'll probably go low again. The dye makes it so much easier to find the leak.

Didn't say if they added any dye or not, but did say they checked it for leaks - and found none. Been a couple of years since last A/C checkup??? Will keep an eye on it and see what transpires. Thanks for the explanation.
