Can someone please help, I have a 2003 6.0 with 85,000 on the odo. When i give it gas from a stop light i hear a low whistle under the hood and realeases a "fishysmell" im serious. At first it was very little but know its getting worse.I doo have a Banks 6 gun bundle on it.With a 6.5 lift on 37s... Thanks for your help...
Mime did that for a short while a couple of years ago. It turned out to be a cracked degas bottle. Hasn't done it since replacing that. Could be many other things though. Open the degas bottle and take a sniff and see if that's your offending odor.

Like others have said, the fishy smell is probably from your degas "overflow" coolant bottle (top left of engine compartment, in front of the driver). The smell is coolant that is leaking, spraying, etc into the engine compartment and burning off.
My first impression on the whistle is that it's the turbo spooling up, but if you've always had this truck and never heard that whistle before, it might be a different leak.
You didn't say how much gas you were giving it when accelerating from a stoplight. Where you just driving normal or where you "getting on it"?
On the top levels of my Banks, I routinely blow coolant out the bottle if I stand on it somewhat hard, especially if I've had it in for service and they topped the bottle off to the stock fluid mark, which is about an inch too high (per a TSB). But even with the fluid lower, if I REALLY stand on it, I'll still blow coolant. No big deal.
But, if it's happening to you under "normal operating circumstances", I'd look around for other leaks.
My 2003 6.0 has 68K and I don't hear that whistle.
Joe
Do you hear your turbo whistle? It's pretty pronounced on my '03, as with many others of our vintage. (and it's REALLY loud now with the Banks downpipe and no cat!)
Hey fellas thanks for all your input. I was under the hood yesterday removing the canister and didnt notice any cracks, but i did see overflow on it. So i called the dealer and orderd one. As soon as i get it i'll slap it on. And about the "whistle", its not its normal sound of an F-18 Fighter Jet when it eats up a duramax, but more like a low pressure air release. Im hoping that'll go away when replacing the canister. I did forget to mention that i have a K&N air intake kit installed too, but I dont think it has anything to do with it.
i get that sometimes, i read once that its pressure escaping from the cap on the degas bottle. i think it has to do with cyl pressure leaking into the cooling system due to the poor head bolts we have stock.
well if thats the sound its making the just be prepared for a leaking egr cooler or a even worse......blown headgaskets.
But hey, if ur headgasket r blown then this would be the perfect time for headstuds and for u to ditch the banks tuner and step up to SCT custom tuning...much better in my oppinion....and the stock heigth powerstroke that i beat the other night, he was using banks.
