I have a 2005 explorer who's ceiling console (containing rear air controls, map lights, HomeLink stuff) decided to fail and fall off. I bought the necessary bracket for the repair - 2C5Z 78519K22 - at the bargain price of $61 from my friendly Ford dealer and am now having a hard time getting it installed. PLEASE, for the love of all that is holy tell me I don't have to pull the headliner out to do the install?
Its very difficult - impossible in fact - to squeeze the part into the opening in the headliner as I'm trying it now. Maybe I just need some pointers.
The best way to install it is to take the side pillars loose, from one of the rear doors, remove the grab handle, and any other little things that may be "holding the headliner up" out of the way and EVER SO LIGHTLY pull the headliner down JUST far enough to slide the bracket in. Use a coat hanger or some wire, go through the hole for the console over to the door where you have the headliner pulled down and hook it to the bracket and pull it through to where you can easily manuevor it to its place. Now like I said, be extremely carefull when pulling the headliner down, IT WILL BEND very easily and end up with a kink in it so you would have to replace the whole thing. I hate to say it but... I didnt go to easily and ended up kinking the thin cardboard backer and had to replace the whole liner
Good luck! I hope that helps you!
I was able to make the install happen. Thanks for the help. I've just taken my Exploder from ghetto to decent in about 30 minutes. Having crap hanging down from the ceiling is never a good look.
