I'll deal with the waste of money and enjoy the piece of mind that it gives me. Thats just my .02...I have done this on all of my trucks and for what it costs as opposed to having a breakdown is ok with me. Besides I am a distributor for MC and get MC parts cheap. I also worry about the damage that the short trips do to the oil.
Ford recommends oil changes at 5,000 miles or 6 months whichever comes first, so yes every 4 months is money wasted.
Ford may recommend 5,000 miles but the report above shows that the oil has sheared down to unsafe levels at 4,000 miles. Seems like Sarge is doing the right thing based on the expense of replacement parts on the 6.0, especially injectors.
I have to agree with Kepler also. I will do a UOA at @ 3k or 6 months and see what results look like. I have also switched to syn 5-40, so I'll be curious to see if that makes any difference.
I would be interested about your results with the 5w-40 synthetic. I want to switch also but was going to wait a while. My MC vendor told me that they may have a synthetic for diesels either comming out or it is out already. He was supposed to get back to me.
I'm curious what Chris from Lube Specialties would have to say, after all several in this thread, and a few via e-mail and PM have voiced concerns about HSS maybe being suspect here. As I said, I don't believe it had anything to do with HSS and I feel it may be from lack of use that I have higher metal contents, but who knows? Chris? Ya out there?? Not trying to pick any fights here either, just curious to see what he says. Sarge, what is this new syn you speak of? Don't keep it a secret, Motorcraft? 5-40? Price, comparability to other 5-40 syns? Details, we need details!

Does it seem like blackstone didn't know what HSS is from the op's first message?
Yes that is the impression I got. I still believe that the HSS didn't have anything to do with the high metals in my report, I have seen other reports from guys that have also been using HSS without any issues like mine.
Sorry it took so long to get back to you. The MC guy was in on Friday and he again said that he will have to check in to it. He didnt know off th top of his head about the synthetic 5w40. He told me he can get me Rotella, I told him I only wanted it if it was MC. I will call him again tomarrow a.m. Hopefully he will have some info on it. I will PM you and let you know the price or I will post it here and if you guys want I can buy it and ship it. Although with the cost to ship stuf it may be cheaper for you to buy it where you are...but as soon as I know for sure so will you. I dont want to post speculation.
The Motorcraft 5W-40 is outrageously expensive - something like 30+ dollars for 5 gallons at my local dealer. I purchased a 3 case lot of Schaeffers that averaged about $16.
