Check the fuses and the switch for the clutch pedal (it's similar to the brake switch). If it's stuck in the on position the cruise would think you have the clutch in all the time.
Does your turn signals work properly? Both sides? If I remember correctly my cruise control quit working the same time my turn signals quit on one side. No brake lights or cruise control. Power for the cruise control goes through the turn signal switch, once it was replaced everything worked again normally.
one more thing to check is the wiring harness where it hooks to the speedo gear at the transfer case(if it's a 4x4) to make sure it's hooked up. that was my trouble(among other things) but the harness had also been pinched in a couple of places and broken some of the control wires. hope this helps with the troubleshooting.
Hi, this is my first time posting in the forum , I had a similar problem when I bought my truck and it was a very weak vacumm. The vacumm pump was going bad and also the reservoir can was all sucked up like a crashed soda can,(so it wasn't storing enough vacumm to support the Brakes, A/C vent lines, Cruise Control); Yes! I had some scary moments with stiff brakes. The vacumm pump was "tired", so I replaced it and fabricated a larger reservoir with a PVC pipe and two Caps and Problem Fixed. Now everything works well.
If you buy the Vacumm pump make sure you get the right one , there are two kinds for the truck and you have to be sure it fits the pulley correctly.
You still need the reservoir for times of high demand, ie. like having to pump the brakes multiple times in traffic, and changing air direction in your air conditioner. Those times where you use more vacumm than the pump can produce immediately, that's the reason for that storage.
