Since this topic is very political, I'll get my comment in before the moderators shut it down. My view is that marriage should be a religious, not a government matter. So, who cares? Just give all types of couples civil unions and get government, at all levels, out of defining what marriage is or is not.

The personal affairs of others and what they do in their bedroom, and their personal legal contracts with each other really aren't of much concern to me.

I believe this country would be a lot better off if people became less concerned with what goes on in other people's personal lives and in their bedrooms, and concentrated on important things that have real impact like the pork-barrel farm bill which robs more money from American tax-payers. Sadly that won't happen, people generally are better informed about who's winning on American idol than who the cabinet members are.

I believe the same as jimandmandy; what each person does and how they live their lives should be their business, as long as they don't infringe on me. Who cares about their sexuality, as long as they are happy and productive members of society? Maybe we all should be more interested in the illegal immigration issue and getting people off welfare, as well as feeding the hungry and homeless................

What about the health insurance benefits angle? That DOES impact many people, and IMO, is one area where reverse discrimination takes place in many companies. I won't even go into polygamy...

I can sign a binding contract with a woman and get coverage as a couple, why shouldn't a woman be able to do the same? We need competitive barriers to insurance removed, not increased (its one of the major reasons insurance is so costly). The more people in the insurance pool the more competive advantage the consumer has.

IMO, the reason people complain about other peoples live style is, typically, two tiered.
  1. They have their own religious values which does not condone or except same sex marriage. As such, they are mandated by their beliefs to speak out. And rightfully so.
  2. The second tier feels they can't control other things in their life and just need something to complain about. Taxes, fuel, war, home values, among other things are just to complex to deal with. Striking out against someone's lifestyle is easy. Kinda like a drive by shooting.

Unfortunately, they always seem to forget the part about not judging people.

That would be all well and good, but right now, same-sex partners under no legally binding contract are offered insurance by corporations and even some public entities. Case-in-point: there are no provisions in Indiana for same-sex partnerships, marriages, etc. However, I know for a fact that a public entity (Purdue University) offers health insurance to same-sex partners of their employees. They do not do this for heterosexual couples who are not under any sort of legal contract. That is discrimination. And, why limit it to one partner? What about polygamy? Why is that any different if all involved agree to the arrangement?

Can't have it both ways...

But many people confuse judging actions with judging people. I can say a person's actions were wrong in my view without that having anything to do with what I believe about their eternal destination, which would be judging the person.

Jason (trying not to go into the religion aspect of this...)

I don't know how you can judge someones actions without judging that person.

(explanation of the difference may not be permissible in this forum).

That's why I didn't explain that difference (as I believe there to be) here.

I don't have any religious affiliations, don't go to church, and don't really believe in a supernatural being. Having said that, I do believe that the homosexual lifestyle goes against nature.

The lifestyle affects us all in many ways. Health issues is one.

We all make judgements of other people constantly. To not do so would not be human. jd
