how much can you equip a 1995 F-150 shortbed 4x4 with a 5.8L, Automatic w/ overdrive, and a 8.8 inch rear to tow???
the truck my friend just got has a 10,000 pound reciever, and coilovers where the shocks are, and it still has the factory leaf springs with i think one leaf added
As for the maximum, I have no idea. I have a similar F250 351 auto and tow a 6500 lb boat with no problems. I have to turn off OD if I want to go 70 though, otherwise it up and down shift constantly. Usually, I just go 60 or 65 though. That truck should tow just fine as long as the rear end is squatting down really bad.
A shorty regular cab can get hairy if the tail starts to wag the dog so to speak. Wheelbase is your friend towing big.
That being said with trailer brakes and a gooseneck, 15k was the max I've towed from a half ton. 10k would be my comfort limit with trailer brakes and a weight distributing receiver hitch.
I always preferred the M5OD-R2 over an automatic, but the E4OD will handle it no problem with a large aftermarket stacked plate cooler in addition to the stock cooling.
i doubt hes going to tow much at all but we noticed if u shook the wheel it made a funny thunk so we took the wheel off and noticed the studs, and drum were worn so bad they dont fit tight anymore... i was wondering if towing too much can cause this?? by the way its a single cab shortbed
