Barret Jackson sure has corrupted a generation of classic vehichle restorers. classic kijiji is full of guys trying to sell bush crud for 1000 bucks and anything driving for 5000.
Well it does look in pretty good shape considering. Not sure what it would be worth, but it seems like "project" ones in worse shape go for about the same kind of money, but usually have a modern v8 installed. Maybe 2500, 3000 would be a better figure, since it is plated and looks like it runs and drives around.
Its the damn goodyear select sticker that makes the price so high. Their damn tires are so expensive that the sticker just cant be!
The only uselfull parts off of a 1 ton is the cab and if your into it the motor/tranny.
A 1 ton truck of this year is kinda like a truck with a 460 from factory. Not many rusted or was drivin too much.
The wheel openings if you simply put a half ton frame under it looked awkard and the box would have to be cut length, width and height wise to make it into a shortbox.
That and a half ton is so much handier for messing around stating with the ride. My 56 F350 isn`t much fun to spend any amount of time by bouncing around and 60 mph is near the comfortible max with the 5.13 rear gears.
I mean now a days you can always throw a different drivetrain under there to make it more driveable. Guess it too depends on how much ya actually plan on driving it.
It takes a ton of cash to make an old one ton any fun and it`s so much easier to begin with a half ton. I know, I`ve tried and that`s why I`m making the 53 M350 into an M 100. It would be cool to diesel it but it`s way too much $$$ involved.
What extra cost would it really be, besides the actual powerplant? The frame should hold up fine on a m350, just have to do some fabbin' to mount the engine in there. You wouldnt want a super high powered diesel though.
The engine cost/tranny/rad, ect is enough to put me off. And as well I really prefer the M100. Once in a while there`s a bigger truck all done up listed on Ebay that doesn`t come close to the reserve and ends up not selling.
That`s not to say that I don`t like my 56 F350 dually but I`m not spending a ton of cash on it.
I did consider puting my diesel into one of my 49 1 tons instead of the 67. But then you got the tiny motor compartment, crappy axles/suspension steering issues, less room to make clutch linkage/ better braking system.
Then also rember if your doing a diesel swap the motor combo is gonna cost at least 2000. versus a 350 Chebby or 302 swap you can probably get a motor for 100 bucks instead.
