400 Clutch?
I need to order a new clutch for my 77 F-250 4x4, it came with a 351M but I had it rebuilt and used a 400 crank and pistons. I also have other performance modifications, ie. intake, cam, headers, etc. After I rebuilt the engine, I resurfaced the stock 351M flywheel and bought an O.E. replacement clutch. After much hauling and hard driving, the clutch has givin out. I would like to get a nicer centerforce clutch for a 400 to handle the added power. But I don't know if the stock flywheel can be resurfaced and used again as the 351m clutch disc is 11in. and the 400 is 12in.?

Centerforce is a great upgrade, They can take some extreme abuse. The more you rev them the more clamping force is applied to the disc. You can buy a new flywheel for a reasonable price at Autozone.

Hey bud, been there and done that! You are correct on the flywheel difference. I had a new clutch setup for a 460 sitting around, and it is supposed to fit a 400. When I went to install it I found that the previous owner didn't use a 400 flywheel when they swapped from the 351m. I could'nt locate the correct flywheel that night, so I spent 10 minutes or so centering the new pressure plate on the 351m flywheel using a caliper. When I had it perfect I clamped it down before drilling and tapping the flywheel for the bigger pattern. While this certainly isn't the correct way to do this, it worked for me. I must admit that I am still a little suprised that there is no detectable vibration, to about 4500 rpm anyway(highest it sees).
