87 F150 5.0

Hey all,
My buddy has an 87 F150, 5.0 that quit the other day. We isolated it to the fuel system, it will fire off on ether. He replaced the fuel filter, and it still won't start. The vacuum line on the regulator is dry. We checked for fuel at the schrader on the fuel rail with a #1 phillips screwdriver, and if we just barely open it, we get air. If we open it fully, we get a geyser of air/fuel foamy mix.

Anybody seen this before? Got ideas or suggestions on where to look for it sucking air?

TIA- Charlie

How much gas is in the tank? Could be a broken pick-up tube in the tank.
