well what can i say my 1990 2.9L is just not cutting it anymore dont want to keep dumping money into it cause i have already exceeded the cost of the truck. I would like a new ranger but the mpg's don't impress me that much i mean ford hasn't improved the gas mileage in almost 2 decades. So heres the question should i just suck it up and get another Ranger or should I try to find a $$$ saver on gas? I mean i'm 6'3 and can't fit into most cars that well and i am definately a truck person but don't want a V8($$$$$$$$$) so what should i do???? Thanks
thanks guys for the imput but i think i'll just go with the 3.0 v6 or even the 4.0 i just want to be able to do the mods for them i can't with the 2.9L
4.0 OHV is an "enlarged" 2.9. but 4.0 SOHC is different engine.... fast!
3.0 is old good american engine. very reliable. You can look for perfomance cam, overbore it, and change/reprogram ECM to have an 10-30 HP gaine. but 4.0 sohc is faster.
if you stay with the 2.9 or equivilant you can also look into add ons to increase mileage or economy. better flow exhaust. plugs, wires, chip, kn style filters. the list is endless. if you are comfortable working on that motor and like it then stay with it
i think i'll go with a 4.0 cause i just dont care about gas anymore im not going to be happy with a car so screw it!!!!! 4.0L it is, i want a better sound out of the engine when i put exaust on it. a 2.9 would sound like a fart in a coffee can with exaust!!! and i have no heat or ac in my 1990 so TEXAS HEAT + NO TINT+ MEATAL BODY= COFFIN!!! i have no $$$$$$ to keep dumping in to it when i fix the ac and heat something else will break i'm telling you!!
In the 15 years I lived down in Pasadena I only had one vehical that had working AC. I had window vans the whole time and they weren't so bad. My F-150, on other hand, was a furnace.
