Quick rocker shaft ?

Okay this is an easy question. For the life of me I can't remember if the drilled oil holes in the shafts point up or down.

Okay Thats what I thought. But with them down I don't seem to get a lot of oil up top.The 390's I have built have been so good to me I have not had to build one in a while so i'm drawing some blanks.

Shafts or oil passages clogged? Proper clearance on the shafts and rockers? You do have the right necked down bolt in the head for the feed hole correct?

all the pressure is on the base side of the rockers due to the springs/lifters so there shouldn't be a real need for oil up top (if I'm reading that right) if oil isn't getting to the rocker shaft then wrong bolt or bad clearances? gallery somewhere bleeding off to much stuff ?

Also something Bill (Numbers Dummy) mentioned in another thread last week....Was the fact the earlier aluminum stands had a round bolt hole in them. They were prone to clogging and poor flow. Revised stands had the square bolt hole in em after that. If the bolts, clearances, stands etc... all checks out could be the feed from the block itself clogged or sludgy. Hows the oil pump itself? New, old?

There is a decent amount of oil when installed holes down, but none seems to hit the springs. I really can't remeber how much is supposed to hit the valves. Just don't want to break anything.

Well dont worry about the seperation springs...If those are the springs your talking about...and the valve springs will normally swim in oil...

I was worried about how much oil should hit the valve springs.
