Lets talk tires

I'd like to get some opinions on tires from you guys for our work trucks. We have 2wd pickups that have commercial/service toppers on them for carrying parts, tools, etc. We keep them fully stocked with low voltage parts that they may need on a job so the trucks are loaded down pretty well. Right now we have been putting all terrain tires on the trucks which I don't think are really needed. These trucks don't go off-road or anything like that. The most they see is a snowy road in the winter and a job site once in a while. They spend most of the time on the highway between service calls. I'm thinking that a highway all-season LT tire would last longer and possibly get a little better fuel mileage as well as carry the load better. Am I correct in thinking this? Any recommendations?

I agree with what you're thinking.

Go with some highway or all season tires like BFG Commerical T/A with a heavy load range. Since the trucks will be loaded all the times, the harsh ride from commerical tires shouldn't make a big difference.

Be sure the tires you buy meets the minimum load range. If it calls for Load Rating D tires, don't go any lower. Going E will give you a safety margin.

You may want to check out the Nitto Dura Grappler tire. It is a highway tread tire designed exactly for what you described as your working conditions.

I run Goodyear Workhorses I seem to get a lot of life out of them they do great on the snow and OK if you ever do wind up off road but are quiet and smooth on the highway mine are load range E and do great when loaded.

Also look for the most tread dept in a tire, most are 15 32nds, don't go any lower than that. You want to get the most out of your tires.
