94 TD stsrting problems
I got a starting problem with my 94 TD. About one month ago after sitting
in the garage for awhile the truck wouldn't start. It had been leaking fuel
occassionaly at the fuel pump. I went ahead and installed the new fuel
pump and a new starter while I was under there. After the install Iin a
timely fashion slowly achieved fuel at the schrader valve bleeding off the
air each time (changed fuel filter also, filled with diesel-kleen). The truck
Started faster than it ever did. However it is know longer. The truck is my
toy project, so I don't drive it currently, I noticed that the injector caps
leaking so I ordered the o-ring kit I just didn't install them yet. It leaks
fuel pretty bad at the right rear of engine. After installing all of the above
The day after running the truck, it would start then quit and act as if it
were flooded hold pedal too floor and it would start. Now that won't
work doesn't even want too fire. It is getting fuel (and air) at the schrader
valve. Could it be the injector caps leeking down causing air intrusion
problems.
Any suggestions would be appreciated
thanks, Mike
It could be just about anywhere in the fuel lines. The most likely is the o-rings/caps/return lines. It could also be the steel lines going to the fuel tanks. Look carefully at clamps, joints, frame attachment points. There could also be a leak in the lines inside the tank. How much fuel do you have? Especially if less than 1/3 - 1/2 tank, try switching tanks and/or parking facing downhill.
The fuel filter and/or water separator may be leaking.
Also, if you've done a lot of cranking, your batteries may be down. Diesels need to turn over fast to start. If you can count the revolutions, it's too slow.
Be careful to not crank more than 20 seconds and then wait at least two minutes before trying again to avoid starter damage.
Good luck.
