Melted Starter wire
My 1995 F150 w/5.0 EFI needed new battery/starter cables and noticed the small gauge wire that connects to the starter solenoid, had its insulation melted off about two inches from the terminal plug. The Plastic wire loom was melted as well. I replaced the solenoid wire, the starter cable to battery and replaced the plastic wire loom. After driving it around town I look to make sure it all look good and noticed the wire loom was melted right at the started motor. I do realize there is a lot of heat in this area being surrounded by the Exhaust manifold, but is it a common problem for the wire insulation to melt right at the starter motor. The truck runs great and is not overheating .

NO that is not a common problem, that sure is starting to look that you hare having some sort of electrical problem. I'd start checking your started it might be going bad and drawing too much causing your wires to overheat! be careful please
