My 93 F150 is pinging on acceleration and at cruising speed. I have checked or replaced the EGR, EGR position sensor, O2 sensor, plugs, wires, coil, and checked the fuel pressure. I have been told to do a balence test on the injectors by unplugging each one while running and note any drop in engine rpm. Problem is, how to get to the injectors under the manifold. Does anyone know of a better test or have any idea's how to troubleshoot this pinging. The only code in the PCM now is #172 (O2 sensor indicates injector bank one too lean)?
Have you had the injectors professionally cleaned yet? There's a new machine out there called the Motor Vac that is AWSOME! This thing will back flush the fuel delivery system, clean the injectors thoroughly, and remove carbon deposits from the throttle plate to the piston! If that doesn't cure it, you might as well change all the injectors at one time.

Thanks for the reply. Where can I get this injector cleaning done? I'm in nowwhere northern Wisconsin and there are not any major dealers in the area. How much does it cost?
Thank you for your response. The initial timing was one of the first things I checked and does'nt seem to be the problem. I'm leaning towords a fuel problem but have not ruled out the TFI module or the PCM. Thanks again.
I had a hesitation and surging problem with my 93 and I had new injectors put in and had the throttle cleaned and had a new TPS switch put in. Helped alot and solved thoses problems. I put a new egr module on, but didnt replace the sensor. Should I have, what's it do anyways?
What are the symptoms of failure?
Make sure your plug wires are separated well from each other. A new set of Ford Motorsport wires are well worth the 40 bucks. My '89 had this problem. New wires and good separation of the ones that could crossfire due to being next in firing order seemed to fix it. Ford had a Tech Serv. Bull. about correct routing.
This sensor is very easy to test. If a meter is not available, use a test light. Remove the sensor from the top of the EGR and hook up your test light. Move the plunger in and out of the sensor and watch the light. Fully extended should be little or no light and the light should increase in intesity as the plunger is retracted. Make sure there are no dead spots or blinking of the light throughout the entire movement of the plunger.
Thanks for the advice. I recently installed new wires and Moroso wire looms. I will double check the routing but am still suspect of the fuel system. I pulled my plugs last weekend and they all appear to be burning lean. I think Im going to purchase a fuel pressure guage and test out the fuel pressure regulator and check for leakage at the injectors. Thanks again for your reply.
a good posibility also is a vaccume leak with that code apearing you do have a fueling issue or air entering from an erea not intended direct propane all around the engine listen for the idle to change if no leak is found there are a few test if you have a pressure gauge then go head and use it if not you can do a flow test consisting of runing the gas line from the pump into a container over a set time then check the amount againt the specs you can also do the same with injectors the local ford dealer will give the specs very acurate way of checking injectors a cloged return line can also cause fuel issues
