Ive got a tapping sound comming from inside the panel on the Passenger side behind the 3rd row. It get a bit louder when the rear A/C is turned to max. What Could It Be?
Check to see if any of the jack accessories may have come loose.
Checked...Everything Secure. Its comming from the compartment on the passenger side behind the 3rd row. Whats under there? Looks like A/C stuff from what i can see...
It is a blend door actuator for the rear AC. There are two of them in there, one controls the temp mix, one controls which vents the air flows through. If you search here for "thumping" and "rear AC" you should get some hits. Lots of threads on it. There is a fairly recent discussion of it as well. One of them is very easy to get to and it will take you 15 minutes to change. The other one, will be tougher and can either be done with all the trim in place by feel, or by taking all the trim panels off all the way from the back of the truck up to the rear side door. To see which one it is, pull off the little crap tray below the quarter window. Flex it inward along the long side to get it started. It is just held in by little arrow head barbs molded into the piece itself. The beige box just forward of that is the motor for the vent selection. Unclip the electrical connection and see if the noise goes away. If it does, it is the easy one and $25 later you will be back in business. If it isn't that one, the other one is further forward and lower. Harder to reach, but the same idea.
Always ford is dead on. this is a common failure item part... this is one you can save some money on if you do it yourself....search for blend door actuator to find many threads for specifics on how to remove and replace.
