carpet problems

I have ordered a carpet from auto krafter who buys their carpets from Auto Custom Carpets (acc). I have received two carpets from them and they both fit bad. Both are short at the kick panels. The first carpet was determined that it was wrong because I have a high trans tunnel. Now this new carpet fits like crap too but the box says 67 ford truck on it. Has any body had problems with acc carpets, I have installed several acc carpets in other cars and never had a problem with them. And is a 67 carpet unique to 67. I have a 72 ford with a c-6 trans.

I know there is an issue with getting the proper version for these trucks. I have the wrong one for my truck, though I've never installed it. Buddy ordered it for me, knowing it's a stick ordered it as such. He forgot that 20 yrs ago I converted it from automatic. I know the hump is different so it's not going to fit.

Not sure if they changed the hump between these years? Bill would be the guy to know that anwer.

I posted a question on the 61-66 Forum on a subject like this one. I had purchased my carpet from LMC 8 years ago not knowing about any other after market companies while I was in high school. At any rate it was said that the floors where the same from 65-79, only exception being auto or manual transmissions.

All I know is my carpet fits like crap, it was about 4 inches to wide and I had to cut it, plus it does not conform correctly to the hump in the center of the floor.

That is one of my plans in the near future is to install new carpet, I want it to fit correctly plus i want it to cover the entire floor not just the floor mat area.

this is a nice carpet, goes all the way to the back of the cab which is nice because I have removed the in cab gas tank. There is 2 inches of floor pan showing at the kick panels. I sent an e-mail to acc we will see what they say.

Prolly more satisfying in the longrun to have an upholstery shop custom make and fit your carpet. That's what my dad always did with his vintage Mustangs.

jwtimme, Floor pans are the same from 65 to 79. The manual floor shift trannys used a larger hump cover, and in 73 to 79 there is 4 more inches on the rear of the cab where the gas tank is.

Hard to say why the carpet doesn't fit.

I gitting more and more frustraded with this carpert ACC sent me this e-mail today

I checked with our Product Development department on what we send for your model truck. It looks as if the years run from 1965-1979 as far as the fit goes. According to them, what you were sent is how we make that carpet. Originally those early year trucks had rubber mats in them and we make the carpet just like the rubber mats were made for those trucks. The rubber mats did not meet at the kick panel wall. So it sounds like what you were sent is how the carpet is sent out each time for those years. I'm sorry this will not work for your truck the way you wanted it to. If you can not use the carpet that Auto Krafters sent to you, let them know the way we cut the carpet isn't going to work for your truck.

Bsically they say my truck did not come with a carpet orriganally (whitch it did its an xlt) So they do not make a carpet to fit witch is crap. Why don't they use a carped truck as a pattern not the rubber mat. I don't like the idea of seeing 2 inches of floor pan when I have a carpet. Auto krafters will not take the carpet back because it is a custom order so I'm out a bunch of money for a crappy carpet. This sucks

I bought mine about seven years ago and I can't find the receipt. It was a place in Minnesota or Wisconsin and it fit my 69 F100 perfect. If I find the receipt I'll post the company name.

Do you have any pictures of your carpet in your truck? I would like to see a picture if possible. Is the carpet full length from the firewall to fuel tank?

Thanks for the link as it gives me another place to check out to buy replacement carpet for my old truck.

I don't have digital photos to post. It does go full length from under the fuel tank to behind the firewall cover. It is molded and fits the hump fine.

I need to dig out the box that my carpet is in. It might have a brand name on it? It's been probably 10 yrs since I got it and once I found out it was wrong.... I never opened it.

I got the carpet for my '71 from ACC and it fits great!!!! I use a steamer to put the carpet in with, borrow it from a buddy of mine who used to do upholstery.... I got the full length carpet and had to trim a bit along the door openings, and work out the nasties that were in it from being stored and shipped all folded up in a box....

ACC is the only place I buy carpet from for any of the projects I do. It's never perfect, but then I've not seen a whole lot of aftermarket stuff that doesn't need a bit of massaging to make it fit/work correctly.....

Another thing I've found when putting my own carpet in is to get it out of the box and unfold everything and let it lay there for a couple days to get some of it's shape back after being packed in the box so tightly for who knows how long.....

Well I finally beat it out of them they sent me the wrong carpet. They sent me a low trans tunnel carpet not a high tunnel. So I guess anther two weeks of waiting on a replacement carpet. I only buy ACC carpets for all the customer cars and they have worked out great, of course they needed a little finesse but this carpet was way short and it just pissed me off when they practically told me too bad. I always lay the carpets out in the sun for a day to warm them up good before installation and a heat gun works grate on molded carpets that are just a little off, But making them grow a couple of inches is tough. I will keep you posted on my progress when the new carpet arrives. (If I can get Auto Krafters to take it back)
