throttle solenoid replacement

Is it possible to take an 'throttle emmisions control solenoid" off a 2150 Carburetor and swap it with a different solenoid, say something like an idle swap?? I can't find a new throttle emmisions control solenoid, but I see plenty of idle stops.

Oh the joys of fixing up a 70's smog vehicle. It's not surprising you're having trouble finding such a thing; in a world full of EFI vehicles and 4-barrel carburetors, there isn't much of a market for replacement 70's smog parts.

If this were me, I'd remove the whole throttle solenoid assembly so that you're just using a the curb idle screw in the back to rest the throttle plates on. If you do that and you have problems with dieseling when you shut the truck off, you could change to an idle stop solenoid. They usually have a threaded shaft on the front that slips through a bracket, with a retaining nut on the other side.

AH HA!!! that is what I've been looking for!!! I guess if I just cap off the vacuum port from the ambient temp switch (which is currently connected to the throttle emmisions control solenoid, it will be ok?

Yes, if you just cap off the vacuum line and leave the emissions solenoid dead, you should be OK. Looking at the picture you posted in your other thread, your solenoid appears to be a combination idle stop\emissions because I can see it has a wire going to it. On carbs like that, the idle is actually set by the long hex-cap screw to the side of the solenoid. That moves the entire solenoid bracket forwards and back, which controls idle. I'd just do that and see how it goes; it may take some trial and error. Or you can junk the whole solenoid assembly and just use the curb idle screw, but like I said you may run into some dieseling problems.
