A rebuilt 300 with 8,000 km. New carb, distributor, cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires (dielectric grease). Started idling a little rough. Changed fuel filter. Checked timing and rpm. 10 BTDC at 550 rpm; vacuum hose plugged to set timing. There are two vacuum ports on carb. The rebuilt carb. replaced an original Tag # Motocraft EOTE AFA AOR22. Which port should the vacuum advance go on for the distributor? There is no vacuum at idle at the port on the carb body until higher RPM. The lower port on the throttle body flange has slight vacuum at 550 rpm. Engine runs smoother still a little rough when distibutor vauum line connected to lower port. Engine should run smooth at idle with vacuum diconnected at distibutor. The EGR valve is in place but not connected. Vacuum guage indicates 18 with steady needle. Plugged all vacuum lines, still runs rough. Re-torqued intake/exhaust. There appears to be a slight hestitation on acceleration but overall seems good. No stalling, starts easy. It has the original ignition module.
Is it getting slightly too much fuel at idle to cause rough idle?
Seperate question. Any associated concerns in not running EGR ssytem on this engine? It has the 1 inch tube running back from the exhaust manifold to the intake body.
My 86 f-150 was doing the same thing, wound up being a bad brake booster, everything worked, but vaccume leak was strong enough to effect idle, changed it and now everything works as it should
egr could also be leaking allowing exhaust gasses into the intake,
i cut a piece of steel and drilled bolt holes then folded aluminum foil 3 or 4 times to make a gasket, stopped my leak until i changed the intake
