well, my 97 is down with the tranny out. it was just rebuilt last july. so, we been using dads 02 to do our towing for a few days. superchip on 60 hp is the only mods. 2002 with 154,000 on original 4R1oo. yesterday he was hauling cattle, and when it downshifted on hills into drive, the rpms would go to 2900, then 3100 and down to 2900 then back to 3100 then fall and stay at 2900. it never would fall below 72 mph on the hills with 17,000+ pounds. then he gets home, and is pukeing fliud out the bell housing weep hole, did that all day long, a pretty good drip of it. its low on fluid now, but the gauge never got above normal. any ideas?
sounds like a faulty gauge to me.......if it's boiling the fluids out, it got overheated big time. Did the fluid smell burnt? Most definitely get some new stuff in it ASAP......then try it...hopefully it's not major damage.
Bearer of bad news. Superchips and 4R100 + 154K miles equals time for a transmission. Looking at your sig., how and why are you running a Superchips, and a DP?

Not necessarily true.....I've had a Superchip on my truck for the past 65,000....with 165,000 total, my tranny is fine. One REALLLLLY quick way of toasting the tranny with the Superchip is towing with it in performance mode. It is VERY important to remain in tow/haul mode with the Superchip if you're towing anything at all.
Did you not see that he was driving his dad's truck?
Yes I did, but this is the information I was referring to.
97 Stroker. not enough mods. only Superchip, K+N, DP, Tranny, Trans Cooler, Rims, hood, all the other nice accessories. Leaky Y pipes, maybe a roaring rearend(from staging it up to run dodges?)
He is an OBS guy the DP means Downpipe thats a big thing for the OBS trucks. Your dad just got that truck didn't he Aaron? That doesn't sound good he could be looking at the tranny going out. When it is all fixed up have him get a DP-Tuner now same to you in your OBS truck.

Thank you very much. See, never too old to learn something new.
Yep, i tow mine with 60 tow safe too. Makes me wonder about running my superchip now but with the high torque of these vehicles getting on it or racing with any chip could do damage if the tranny is stock. Hope everything works out.
My dad owns an OBS so I know a little about those trucks heh.
I bought a brand new OBS PSD, but was too busy working back then to even consider modding it or even learning anything about it back then. Damn, that seems like another lifetime now.
fluid smelled good (for a petrolium product) lol. yes, dp is down pipe. yes, hes just had the truck 10,000 miles or so. gotter about january. he knew the trans wasnt gonna last long like that, but its shifting great. i'm thinking maybe a bad seal
