You've got to be kidding me. I guess I'm just stuck on stupid! Had my 86 F150 for 2 years now...just found out it has a tilt-wheel. Now it's not way up in the air like the wheel on a farm tractor..blocking the turn-signal lights!! Arrrghhh! By the way..there's not a single word about this in the original owners manual that I have. Now, I did figger out the intermittant wipers. Still never remember which way to turn it to use it..but I know it's there!! Audie..the Oldfart....
I read somewhere once that cruise and tilt go together on '80-91 F-series trucks...if you have one, you also have the other. I don't know if its true or not, but every truck I've ever seen either had both or neither...don't beleive I've ever seen them installed seperately from the factory.
unless im really really dumb, i think i have cruise...DOESNT WORK!!!! = ( and no tilt wheel. are you guys saying you just push on the turn signal lever and wiggle the wheel??
If you have Cruise Control you'll have two long, silver, rectangular bottons on your
steering wheel center spoke near the horn buttons.If tilt, push the turn signal lever
forward toward the dash (or maybe pull it towards your body, I forget).
My '88 F-150 (owned about a year - it's my plow truck) had to be towed to the shop the other week - burned out hi-pressure fuel wiring - The tow guy that came brought a flat bed to take the truck away (it's a 4x4). The wheels were cocked, so he reached into the cab and pulled on the steering wheel to straighten them up. The steering wheel popped and fell towards the seat. He looked at me and said "oops".
:: sigh ::
So the truck goes to the shop, gets fixed, and I picked it up the other day. I squeezed my body between the wheel and the seat and brought it home. It's not my daily driver, so I parked it 'round back and decided to tackle replacing whatever broken parts in the column this weekend.
I checked in here to get any good ideas about what I was up against. Found this (and several other) threads about this "hidden" tilt wheel mechanism. I just checked - and yeppers - I have it, too! (whoodathunkit??)
So once again, this forum has saved me time, trouble, anxiety, money, and my sanity!
Wow. Mine doesn't have tilt, but after reading this and playing around, I just discovered that mine has turn signals! And I don't even have to roll the window down to use them.
