I am in need of a replacement compressor and have found several on RockAuto.com and Ebay that vary from new to reman. It seems there are many different configurations out there and variable including the clutch pulley diameter and plug locations. Can anyone tell me what the best way to figure out what I need. The local dealer seems to guard part numbers when asked and I can't seem to find anything online. The truck is a '99 x-cab 5.4/auto. Thanks.
Thanks for the link. I searched for Ford parts sites and found every one but that. Question still, even on the Motorcraft site, I enter my year, model and engine, it lists several compressors. When you look at the applications listed for each, they then don't even list my truck. Do I look at what compressor I have and get that exact one or what. I am still confused. The new compressor I found is an FS10 and the part number is a Visteon 010022. I am trying to replace all most of the A/C parts and if this is how it will be, I am in for an uphill battle. Thanks.
Do you need the entire compressor or just the clutch? I purchased a clutch from Advanced Auto Parts for a fraction of the price and didnt have to open up the A/C system.....
OK, I will do that. Basically, my metal lines are pretty rusty, the compressor leaks at the seam, the clutch is noisy and I had a shop do a dye test and it comes out pretty much everywhere. I plan on getting a new or reman. compressor, lines, and evaporator at least.
It might be a good idea to have your VIN at hand when you inquire. I found out the hard way, they should've asked for the my 98's VIN, after I discovered there's 2 different 4.6 belt widths.
