Beginner questions
It has a carberated 351 with automatic tranny. The sticker on the air cleaner says "4V H.O." The truck was made in Canada if that helps.
So my questions are:
Is it a cleveland or a windsor, or can you help me tell the difference?
How do you find out what kind of tranny it has?
My plans are to swap the engine for a good used one to get me through another Buffalo winter. Therefore I need to know what I have and what I can drop right into the truck. I would also like to attempt to rebuild this engine, however it would be my first and I would like anyones opinion as to whether this engine is too complex to rebuild (with the 4 valves/cylinder heads and all) or if parts are hard to get or very expensive.
Finally I have to mention I'm not as complete a newbie as I sound. I had a '68 F250 that i fixed up a few years ago and kept on the road, although I never attempted a project like this yet. Thanks in advance for any help.

It's a windsor. Cleveland's were never in pickup's and were only produced for about 3 years. Windsor's were produced from 1983-on...

The were only two automatic's produced. A C-6 which has (D,2,1,) for drive gears, and a AOD which has (OD,D,1) for drive gears.

4v stands for 4-venturi carb. The factory had a 4180 4-barrel. The 351 would be a 16 valve, 2 valve per cylinder. I would stick with a 351w, in fact, you might want to just get a rebuilt with a warrentee. The 351H.O, was produced from 1984 to 1987. It produces 210hp and 330 ft/lbs. It came factory with a 17" air cleaner and a low restriction exhuast. I'm not a fan of holley carb's, because the demand alot of tuning. But, if the carb is in good shape, and doesn't need a rebuild. Use it!
If you know someone that will help you rebuild your 351, you may learn alot and have fun. I intend to do a 302 or 351 build for a 1989 F-150 4x4 that had a 302EFI factory. I haven't ever built a engine for myself. But I have friend's who owe me time and their expertise.
