I have a 1983 ford f-150 with the 351w motor. I'm getting ready to buy new trick flow twisted wedge heads, edelbrock torker 2 intake, comp cam, pete jackson gear drive and stall converter. What I would like to know is if I buy this stuff will it function ok with all my other stock parts. I'm keeping the rest of the motor stock (pistons and all). Someone told me I would have trouble but I didn't think I would. Any help would be helpful.
Although I am somewhat unfamiliar with the later model 351W (mine is a 70)... one potential problem you may have with the new heads if they run big intake valves (like 2.02s) is valve to piston clearance.. are the stock pistons dished, flattop??? Are you planning on beefing up the top end, cam, cam gears, etc.. and doing nothing to the bottom end? (like not even rebuilding it to stock specs).. just wondered...
It sounds to me like you have it covered. Just check your clearance to the pistons. If your bottom end is weak, you can always rebuild that at a later date. Sounds like a good combo. Did you mention headers/exhaust. With all that top end, you should try to make your engine breathe better with a good set of headers and 2 1/4" pipe with hi-flow catalytic converters and a set of Flowmaster mufflers, all dumping through some awesome stainless steel tips under your rear bumper.
Thanx for the help slikness. I'll check the clearance. As for the engine breathing better I'm trying to find out if Hooker makes super comp headers for my truck. I've seen just comp. As far as the exhoust goes I've got staright pipes no nothing under it. I've got pencil cut stainless steel tips on the end. Its loud as hell and it'll talk to ya.
