One of the backup lights lenses on our 2001 Navigator came loose due to two of the plastic clips breaking off. The dealer says the only way he can get them is in the whole liscense plate assemby for over $300. No thanks. I guess I'll start watching eBay and checking salvage yards and web sites unless someone can tell where to purchase one. For the moment JB Weld to the rescue.
I'm in a similar boat; someone probably reached up under the license assembly of my '02 Navi to open the glass hatch and ended up pushing the license plate light up into the assembly and broke the license plate light lense. Dealer soulution; buy the whole new assembly for $300+ !!!
I've tried a few wrecking yards but the Navigators seem to be scarce in the yards.
Can anyone describe how to remove the assembly so that I could get the license plate light bulb and lense out of there so I could at least t-r-y some JB Weld?
On mine I removed two phillips screws that hold the strap in the inside, middle area of the hatch. Then on the bottom edge of the trim are two trim "plugs" I removed. After that pulled out on the bottom edge of the trim to make these other "plugs" come loose. Once all were loose, removed the trim piece. Then I have the plastic cover with adhesive on the edge that needs to be pulled away from the hatch so I can get to the lense. Fortunately the parts that broke off were still on the inside and was able to get them out. Did the JB Weld this morning and at the moment it is looking good.
