Hi all, I am a newbie here but have had quite a few ford. This is my first explorer, I got it in 2000 and it has served me well with no complaints till lately.
History, the passager window motor was replaced in 2003. The starter was done last month. It has has all new brakes and lines in 2000. The resaon I got it so cheap is the last owner (elderly man) put power steering fluid in brake master cyl.
So for the last few weeks the window (front passanger door) has been working on and off. Well 4 days ago it quit totally. Unlike the last time I cannot afford to have someone fix it... because I was part of a "cut back" so I am out of work..
So my question is, do I need to replace the motor or relay or am I looking for something else?
If I need to replace it can someone point me in the right direction or a link with pictures.... anything that will help.
Ford uses plastic planetaries. I remove the motor and open it up. Remove the plastic planetaries. Take a 5/16" hex head bolt with a long shoulder. Cut 3 sections out of the shoulder area of the bolt 1/2" long each. Drop the little pieces of bolt in where the plastic ones came out. Add some grease and reinstall. It will work forever and you just saved $200.00 on the cost of a new motor for the motor at the dealership. They used to sell a rebuild kit of this problem, but they stopped because they make more money selling you an entire new motor(which you don't need) instead of the repair kit. I've done plenty of these on Expeds, Explor and Lincolns. They all have plastic planetaries. Don't tell anyone about my idea! It's a secret.
you can also check at your local auto parts store. they are usually only around 60.00 for the motor. dont go to a dealership, I work at one and dont even buy parts there, even with my "discount" they still rape ya for the same part u get at the locals. It sounds like the motor is bad, they do go out fairly easy, make sure the connectors are all dry, that has been the biggest cause of them quitting, water runs down the window and doesnt get routed away from the motors.
