1964 Ford 390 missfiring problem
Hello to all, im new here and this is my first post, i just became the proud owner of an all original 1964 ford galaxie 500 and the engine and tranny it has are original just rebuilt, all works, has most if not all vaccums and a 4bbl stock carb..car looks colmpletly stock under the hood and it just started to idle like crap, i mean i have to have the pedal somewhat pressed down just so it wont turn off. the sparkplugs are new, the oil and filter are new, the water pump is new distributor and wires look good i cant figure it out, some help will be greatly appreciated thank you!

Well if it isnt as simple as an adjustment of the idle stop screw then,, I'm guessing you might have a vac leak. Vacuum Gauge would tell you if thats the case..or some carb cleaner spritzed around the base of carb and hoses (aztec method). Or could be alot of stuff really when you get right down to it, but hey you gotta start somewhere/

Are the new plug wires on right, #1 on the dist. to the #1 plug etc? Just because the cap and wires look good means nothing, change them. Points and condenser need to be changed, check dwell and timing. Do you have the vacuum hoses on right or is one cracked or split. Fuel filter dirty? It should be on the fuel pump. How old is the gas? have you tried adjusting the carb? And it can go on and on from here.

Hey you guys i just found out what the problem was, i removed the distributor cap and just scraped some residue off of the contact tab and now its working fine, runs cherry! i really appreciate the help fellas thanks!
