Exhaust

Question does the new engine need the exhaust to exit out the side or can a 45 peice of pipe with holes drilled in for air, be placed after the dpf

Read your book. If you want the warranty, don't touch. If you don't care about the warranty do what you want.

Did you get the CD that comes with new 2008's? It answers your question. There is an extreme amount of heat during regen.

My personal reccomendation is don't touch it.

i didnt know if it would i was told after the dpf can you can do what you want as long as you keep the dpf in its place and no mods from the turbo back. I do know that regen is about 1200 degrees at ideal nad with a turn down to the ground with holes drilled in figured thered be no harm

Have you watched the CD tha came with your truck? Important that you do, and understand why it was engineered the way it is. I can probably find you link if you do not have the CD which I would go back to selling dealer and demand, or cal FORD customer service. A lot of important info in a 20 minute presentation.

Have you seen the video on youtube where the truck is shooting a flame out of the tailpipe. That exhaust is really hot and wouldnt be a good thing to have exiting under your truck. Also, the tip is designed a certain way, I don't think drilling holes in the pipe would give the same effect.

I dont have the CD but in the book that came with the truck it says that you can change the pipe after the DPF.

Would not recommend this at all. There would be no point in doing this, it will not give you any more noise or performance. The stock exhaust system after the DPF has no restriction at all, the muffler is fake, and the inter cooled tips make a significant difference in exhaust temps exiting the truck.

The strait piped trucks can exit underneath because there is no heat from the regeneration cycle. EGT's without the DPF are WWAAYYY below those of a truck with a DPF. After I drive for a few hours in my truck I can get out and lay my hand on my stacks and not have to pull away, it's only about 200-300* under the truck. With the DPF you're looking at temps around 1200-1500*, you try and put your hand on it and you're looking at some major burns.

No, I'm just saying putting a turn down underneath the truck is pointless and can be hazardous when driving off-road.

But I doubt the book says what you said. If you read the stamping on the muffler under the truck is says removing this will void warranty or something similar.

I didn't say dont get an aftermarket exhaust, I said don't make a jerry-rigged homemade one that exits under the truck and has holes drilled in it. By all means get an aftermarket exhaust from a reputable company if you want to. But why spend 50 grand on a truck and put a junk exhaust on it that could be very harmful or even dangerous to the truck?

Do I smell the next California Wildfire?

"Firefighters today have determined the cause of the fire to be a from a modified exhaust system on a Ford Super Duty truck. Apparently the truck fired it's exhaust straight down underneath itself, blazing the grass underneath. More at 11..."
