1978 351m question

I tore down a 351m last night and the engine has 2 dipsticks. Why? one in the pan and one goes threw the bock into the front of the pan.Is this factory or is the oil pan after market.

Maybe it's a car motor and someone swapped it into the truck and then added the truck dipstick. Cars have the dipsticks in a different spot. If you can find the block casting number by the starter, that will tell you for sure. If not, then I'd guess it's some kind of modification made by a previous owner or some sort of aftermarket oil pan.

Yes, I believe it has to do with front sump vs. rear sump oil pan, dictates where the dipstick will be.

Is there any performance difference between a car 351m and a truck 351m.Also if I get the casting numbers how will I be able to tell if is a car or truck motor?
