2000 Navi 4x4:
heres my problem and i know others have had the same. also included is what i have done to try and fix it. any ideas welcome:
I am having the shimmer/vibration sound and feeling when at a stop sign and go to make a left or right turn. it feels like the shimmer/vibration is coming from the rear tires or maybe the transfer case. it only does this on left and right turns from a stop. also does it if on a steep incline making a turn around sharp corners at low speeds(5-10 mph). i think it is in the transfer case, so i changed the fluid, twice, and added the lucas slip fluid as well. tires are brand new and have the same tread on them. rear end fluid was changed and topped off with royal purple synthetic.
i also have the auto 4x4 on mine so i overrode the switch to make it a 2 wheel drive until 4x4 is needed but it still does it.
i am out of ideas, please help me and let me know what you guys did to fix this if it ever happened to you. thanks
My 2000 Navi was doing the same thing and I also did just about everything you did. My issue ended up being the lower ball joints. Had them replaced and issue is gone. Hope this helps.
I will apologize for changing gears on you here but you can disable the all wheel drive option? I honestly don't know exactly how the all wheel drive works but disabling it would improve mileage, yes?
Rhino on my 2000 Nav 4x4 my rear differential is limited slip and requires along with the fluid---a special additive to prevent the type of prob you describe---when you had the differential flushed---did the additive get added---if not I'd get some at the dealer and add it---I think it takes about 4oz
Rhino I'm not sure if having double the modifier will hurt---I'm guessing it wouldn't hurt but I am only guessing---perhaps a more informed forum member can advise? Maybe make a separate post on the topic---title it 'Differential Friction Modifier' ????
If someone else did the work--perhaps you can inquire? I think its dealer only so if a non dealer did it---it's very possible they didn't make a run to the dealer for 4oz!
The spec on fluid for the rear differential calls for synthetic oil---when I did mine cause I had a leaky rear axle seal I just bought the oil and modifier at the dealer (I get a good discount there)--but I assume purple is as good or better---but you still need the modifier and without it you the problem you describe can develop. Clutch packs stick or something like that. Let us know if it helps---I sure hope it does the trick!
ok thanks, maybe someone will chime in with an answer. i am so tired of having a friend in the Navi and having to explain the noise when they ask. it almost sounds like a tire rubbing but i checked and there is no way, there are several inches of clearance. i know others have had this same problem, i just hope the modifier fixes it.
