hello, ? is, did the 1988 5.8 have something different than the 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8.........for some reason the po said something to the effect of having do run the same order as a 302, is that possible or would it even run on the 302 firing order????????.
well it is running rough and misfiring, at acceleration from a slow down, like a miss, and it sounds like a constant miss at idle. so i guess that i will be putting the wires back to 5.8 and see what that does.........i tuned it up using the old replace as they come off trick and it still runs like crap....so i will try and see if it helps it.
Troubleshooting problems like this (called drivability problems) involves careful examination of parts and troubleshooting, not going off half cocked in any old direction. Only change the firing order if you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is wrong. Otherwise, look at cap, rotor, vacuum lines, sensors and other components with meters, gages or whatever you need to prove something is working or in spec.
sweet, the firing order was off, andddd, the difference is amazing, it is unbelievable the difference, when i took off in second gear, i almost broke my neck(well not really) but it was a whole lot quicker...and it was hard to keep it under 55. thank you to everybody.....
i kinda think that it was not really the wrong firing order maybe just a few switched wires, idk, but i think it runs a lot better though........but i know that it was like that for a while though, but i drive maybe ten miles a week and it always didn't seem right for a 5.8. i am very much impressed, maybe for just a while as long as nothing else shows up....it just proves that you need to go by a manual and go by that instead of just removing and replacing as you go, if you don't know a lot about the truck when you get it..
