Idea time: I think I want a full airbag suspension or air bags w/ leafs. I have an 03 6.0 PSD weighing at just under 10k lbs. Is there any company that makes it for this vehicle.
Don't all that extras, looked at the sticker in the door and it said 95??lbs. I thought that was a bit much, but I tried to lift the front end on my 2 1/2 ton jack and it didn't budge. Its a diesel, could that be the added weight?
The sticker on the door frame/jamb that shows the value next to GVWR as 9200# is the MOST that Ford says you can load your Ex to. That means, passengers, gear, trailer tongue weight, etc. It is NOT what the Ex actually weighs...
A STOCK unloaded 4x4 PSD Ex will come in near 8000#'s depending on factory options and trim level. The PSD adds ~600#'s just due to the motor over my V10.
I'm not sure if Kelderman (sp?) makes a full air bag suspension for the Ex or not...
Sounds like your Ex is of factory vintage (i.e. non-lifted, etc)...the 10K#'s got my attention as well...I figured you had a lift kit with larger tires or something...
Someone should be able to address your question as to a stock EX air ride kit...
For what it's worth - I've had the EAS on 5 different vehicles -- Range Rovers and a Navigator. We've left it on two newer Rovers (merely because they're new and under warranty - and will be traded in prior to warranty
expiration) but pulled it out on 2 others for springs. I'm looking at different lift options for our Excursion - but would never add airbags to the equation. Too many headaches....when one bag goes, you replace it -- pushed out the others, wears out the pump, compressor, valves....have been through it too many times to count.
Again, not by any means an expert here or technical guru - I just know what
I've spent on repairs and maintenance for that particular issue on several vehicles -- and I don't think the ride is that much better - nor the cost worth it.
I have the firestone air ride, (front and rear), with the factory leaf springs. I have to keep 30# of air in them to keep the ride comfortable. If I have less I can feel the airbags bottom out when I hit a good Michigan pot hole. If I have more then it's like riding in a Sherman tank but it does give me a 3-5 inch lift depending on how much pressure I put in.
I have always been fascinated with the Kelderman Suspension lifts however one would need a 2nd mortgage to afford the larger lifts (10K+ based on the internet!!!).
