You need to find leaks in the vacuum hoses and fittings. Its really a time consuming and frustrating process. Other than that, I don't know any tricks. What are the symptoms that are happening as a result of the leak?
I always had luck at finding them using a small squirt bottle filled with soapy water. Listen around under the hood until you locate the general area the hissing leak noise is coming from. Then squirt a little water on the vacuum tubes in that area and watch for bubbles. If the leak is small enough the idle may smooth out for a moment while the water covers the hole[s]. Some people do the same trick with WD-40, carb cleaner, or a unlit propane torch, I prefer water simply because its not flammable.
Good luck, it can be frustrating finding them. But in the long run it's not really worth letting a 75 cent piece of hose make your truck run like crap.
I like the unlit propane better then the starting fluid. The starting fluid dries the lines and rubber out.
Just crack the bottle open enough for a constant light release of gas. and run the tip closely around the connections and along the lines.
When using this method ,If a leak is present it will suck the fluid/gas in and raise the idle momentarily .
Please you extreme caution when using this method. If your not confident about it . just replace all the vacuum lines with rubber hose weather they are bad or not..............Rubber vacuum line is really cheap..........Especially by the roll
Well I have replaced plugs, rotor, distributor cap, and the TPS. Truck's idle is no less than 1200rpm thus causing 1st gear nearly impossible to go in when sitting in a traffic light. Also when ever I clutch the idle rises about 500 rpm. So now I'm wondering if it is vacuum leak, MAF Sensor or my fuel pressure. The truck was out of commission for 2 yrs before my neighbor gave it to me.
Yeah I actually heard it today, I was also doing the timing today and I had a really hard ( was not able to spot the markings on the pulley any idea of the why?
