Head Interchangeability 302
I replaced the stock intake with an Edelbrock Performer and Edelbrock 4bbl card.
It broke a piston about 5,000 miles later!?
Found out at this time theywere .40 over. Heads were minus valve stem seals!? Had them completely redone.
About 2000 miles later. Blown head gasket! Replaced gasket and motor ran very good.
2000 miles later...broke crank!!! Bent valves! Wobble got into bottom of one piston! Bent pushrods!
I'd like to find out who rebuilt this motor! Hanging would be too good!!
So, I've started collecting parts. Bought crank w/bearings. Roller timing chain set. High volume oil pump. Stock cam and new lifters. The block is clean except for all the metal shavings, so I think knocking out the expansion plugs and a trip to the car wash after a line bore and cylinder rehone should get me set there.
Now, the heads. They are evidently stock as they have the rail style rockers.
I've got a chance to get a set off a 86 HO mustang. I believe it is the combustion chamber volume that I need worry about so as not to get too high a compression ratio. They take different rockers, but I'm aware of that.
Any input on other differences or problems I might encounter?
I've also been offered a set off a '72 truck. I could save shipping on the HO heads, so I'd prefer those but??
Thanks in advance!
