Starting problem. Please Help!!

1 bad battery kills the other
If 1 is bad it drains the other down trying to equal the voltage, Batteries must be replaced in pairs, unless you get lucky and have the exact same amperage batteries. I would still get 2 new batts.

got it all sorted out. took the wrecker nearly a half-hour to build up enough of a charge to start it. The battery meter at the auto shop showed that the secondary battery hadn't suffered any damage from powering the dead battery. looks like i got lucky. thanks for everyone's help!
