Engine Oil Level

Does the 7.3 seem to settle in on its oil level. After my oil changes I have added oil to get the reading on the stick to exactly full. After 50 to 100 miles of driving it drops to approx 1/4" below full. If I add the small amount of oil to get it back to full it will return to the previous level. After reaching this level it does not drop at all in up to 5000-6000 miles. I assume that this is the engines running level and I should not be concerned with it, is that a safe assupmtion?

are you filling your oil filter when you do your change? if not this may account for your missing oil.

I prefill my filter at oil change time so that is not it. I find that I can bring it up to full after any number of miles and it will return to the level I mentioned.

You may have an after-market/incorrect dip stick. I think the engine is burning off the excess and bringing the level to the true normal range.
