I have a 1985 F-250 4x4, 429, 4speed Lariet Reg cab I had put together about 10 years ago and stopped driving 6 years ago and put it in the corner of my shop. I recently got looking at it as I figured I would put some fresh gas in it, change the oils, shine it up and put a few miles on it.
The problem I am having is that I had put a Lariet interior in it years ago, and becuase of the carpet my rust free cab now has rust on the floorboards, and bad enough that it would be very difficult to replace just the bad floor.
I would like to know if any of the later years cabs (87 and up) will interchange, as rust free one are easier to find, and what kind of problems I might have in mounting a later cab to an 80-86 truck. I would really like to keep the 85 interior and accessories.
The Firewalls are slightly different depending on year. You may have to make holes, or seal holes up for things like wiring harness, changes etc.
And of course the dash is different, you may have to modify where the 1980-1986 dash bolts to the cab of a 1987 or newer cab. I have seen cabs though with mounting holes for BOTH types of dashes after 1987 etc.
nothing else that comes to mind...
Let's just say it will be less work than trying to replace the entire floor, for sure.
Ok, I will have to check it out and see how different it is. I should be able to modify it if it isn't too different, should still be easier than tryingto repair the old cab.
