I'm on Ebay looking for a winch because I need one ASAP for my business. I see 9k and 12k and 13k lb winches. Some are WARN winches which I think are good and some are viper and gorilla which who knows who they are haha? Does the brand matter cause the price is half of that of a warn for the off name, and its got a 2 year warranty? Also I'm in goose creek, sc and I would like to buy one tomorrow and bypass ebay just so I get it sooner. Anyone know of a place to get a 12K lb winch for less than $700 around here? Is the Spartan guy working out of Summerville sc, somewhere? Thanks for the help guys. Anyone got a good winch to sell? Thanks again.

For an F350, you need a 12k minimum IMO. Warn is one of the best as I'm sure you know. Ramsey is another good name. If you are actually going to use this winch, get a brand name. If you just want one to look cool on your bumper, get whatever is cheap. You need it asap for business, so I would guess you plan to actually use it.
Any store that sells off-road or 4 x 4 stuff will have winches. Just check your phone book.
With winches, you definately get what you pay for. A buddy of mine bought a 8000lb Superwinch for his Ranger around Xmas, and he's already having trouble with it.
Now that I think about this, that advice is for a winch meant to recover your truck. You said this was for business, but what business? You might not need that much if you just want to tug fencelines, or other work related stuff. Getting stuck is only one use of a winch.
Are all winches the same? Yes they are all designed to pull/lift heavy loads.
Are all winch brands the same? NO! Some mfg's rate thier product on its max load capacity while others will generally understate the capacity. Some mfg's will stand behind thier product for life while others offer little or no warranty at all.
Having spent 8 plus years employeed with one of the premier winch makers I will tell you this. I personally would not buy any off brand of winch. Especially if it were going on the front of my truck and I was thinking that will in fact have a regular need for it. IMO you would be better of buying a quality used winch than a brand new no name brand.
My choices in this order would be: WARN then a Ramsey! Mile Marker and Superwinch and any other mfg would not even be on the radar. See my signiture for the winch on my vehicle.

I have a Ramsey 8k winch that needs rebuilding,(mainly seals) I contacted them and they won't sell me any parts for it. I have to go threw a dealer, so they can mark up the prices for the parts. So, I would say Ramsey service isn't the greatest.

Incorrect.
There are off road recovery winches and there are hoist winches.
Wouldn't a hoist winch lift heavy loads? Don't recovery winches pull? Or do hoist winches pull loads up, or hoist?
A hoist is generally geared differently and has locking brakes to hold the load where as a recovery winch even with brakes is not ment to hold a load. The brakes on a recovery winch can and do slip.

i have bought several parts for my winches in the past from them and have never had any problems

You must have a bussiness to go thru, I don't and they won't sell me any parts. Its not my imagination. Ramsey customer service sucks. They don't care about you unless you have a bussiness.
